After observations that the RHS Bridgewater site was poorly served by public transport, particularly in relation to the nearest railway station (Walkden), SELCRP wanted to provide a link and demonstrate the potential for commercial viability of diverting existing services or creating a new service to the site that would provide a reliable and affordable option for those without access to a car and/or on a low income, and for local residents who can take advantage of free entry offered to Salford residents on certain dates.

SELCRP are proud to have launched a new project in partnership with City of Sanctuary Bolton. The ‘Stations of Sanctuary’ project aims to make Bolton Station a more accessible and welcoming place for refugees and people seeking asylum, and to develop a system of accreditation for other stations to consider the way in which they offer support for service users from a variety of ethnic backgrounds.

At a time when many people had suffered increased stress, anxiety, depression and other mental health issues following the pandemic, SELCRP wanted to offer 60‐second stress relief workshops and goody bags to passengers and station staff Manchester Piccadilly and Wigan North Western Stations. The project aimed to provide customers with a positive experience to promote health and wellbeing, and help people feel more relaxed in returning to the railway. We also wanted to offer this to station staff as a way to offer support and encourage engagement in community rail.

We are proud to announce that as part of a collaborative project with Rotala/Diamond NW, we have recently launched a new bus service from Bolton Interchange to Rivington Country Park. With funding and support from Community Rail Network, CrossCountry Trains and Horwich Town Council, the service will now run every Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday until October 2021. Avanti West Coast working with South East Lancashire Community Rail Partnership (SELCRP) are commissioning a new large‐scale mural for the underpass beneath the platforms at Wigan North Western Station. This is a busy thoroughfare with a high daily footfall.
