Food and Rail Heritage Talk at Kents Bank Station Library
On Wednesday 18 February 2026 South East Lancashire CRP’s Community Rail Officer Emily Oldfield gave a talk at Kents Bank Station Library, focusing on northern English food history and how it has been shaped by travel (particularly rail) and trade.
Emily was accompanied by SELCRP Chair Julie Levy, and both brought a range of food samples for the audience to try – including Lancashire cheese, Eccles cakes, brawn and pies. A number of items were sourced from Bolton Market, following on from connections made during the August 2025 edition of Emily’s talk at Bolton Station (news item also on this website).

The network and meetings are set up and hosted by Catherine Kingdom of Community Rail Lancashire, functioning as an opportunity to learn more about education, its role in rail, and sharing best practice. On Friday 30 January 2026 South East Lancashire CRP’s Community Rail Officers Dr Steph Dermott and Emily Oldfield attended the TransPennine Express Stakeholder Conference at The Kimpton Clocktower Hotel in Manchester.
Designed to be an engaging and informative event exploring developments within TransPennine and the wider industry, the day started with registration, networking and the opportunity to visit market stalls featuring various TransPennine partners. This was followed by a morning of speeches and updates, including an overview from Managing Director Chris Jackson, insights into customer experience and performance, and panel discussions featuring a range of industry members.

On Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 January 2026 South East Lancashire CRP’s Community Rail Officer Emily Oldfield travelled to Birmingham for Community Rail Network’s (CRN) New Officer event.
The two days involved an evening of networking, followed by a daytime session of learning, looking at outcomes and sharing ideas, hosted by Alex Peel (Training and development coordinator, CRN) and Paul Webster (Region’s support manager, CRN).

On Thursday 27 and Friday 28 November SELCRP’s Community Rail Officer Emily Oldfield undertook Mental Health First Aid Training with St John Ambulance.
The course ran for two days at Faulkner House in Manchester, with completion meaning that Emily is now a certified Mental Health First Aider. She also received a green Mental Health First Aider lanyard, which she will wear when present at Bolton Station.
