On Friday 30 January 2026 South East Lancashire CRP’s Community Rail Officers Dr Steph Dermott and Emily Oldfield attended the TransPennine Express Stakeholder Conference at The Kimpton Clocktower Hotel in Manchester.
Designed to be an engaging and informative event exploring developments within TransPennine and the wider industry, the day started with registration, networking and the opportunity to visit market stalls featuring various TransPennine partners. This was followed by a morning of speeches and updates, including an overview from Managing Director Chris Jackson, insights into customer experience and performance, and panel discussions featuring a range of industry members.
The conference provided a valuable learning opportunity, especially considering preparations ahead of Great British Railways, and encouraged an environment of openness and collaboration. There was the opportunity for audience questions, as well as the chance to try samples of TransPennine Express’ locally sourced on-train catering ahead of the lunch break.
The afternoon significantly featured reflections on community engagement, partnership working and social value – all factors of significant importance to Community Rail also. Conference participants left with a TransPennine Express ‘goody bag’ which included examples of refreshments served on TransPennine trains and was a welcome touch.
