On Wednesday 4 February 2026 South East Lancashire CRP’s Community Rail Officer Emily Oldfield attended a Northern Education Network Meeting at County Hall in Preston.
The network and meetings are set up and hosted by Catherine Kingdom of Community Rail Lancashire, functioning as an opportunity to learn more about education, its role in rail, and sharing best practice. Colleagues from across the industry are invited, including CRP Officers, Network Rail staff and Station Adopters.
The February session was well-attended and featured some Safeguarding training focusing largely on young people, delivered by Nicola Hirst of Emerald Green Specialist Education and Consultancy. This involved a presentation with interactive elements, encouraging collaboration between participants, and highlighting the many factors of consideration when keeping young people safe, especially in a complex environment like a station.
The Safeguarding training will be constructive to Emily’s ongoing development, especially considering she is also shadowing training to be able to deliver the Try The Train initiative to local groups in the future.
The meeting included lunch and plentiful opportunities for discussion, as well as the sharing of some Community Rail Lancashire educational resources from Dave Savage.
